Creative Growth and Finding Balance: My Experience So Far at the Kordin Business Incubation Centre
Starting a new chapter always brings a mix of excitement and uncertainty. After my solo show in December 2024, I couldn't believe that I was lucky enough to be selected for a subsidised studio. Moving into the Kordin Business Incubation Centre has given me the space to grow creatively, but it has also required me to adapt to new routines, overcome challenges, and rethink my artistic process. As I reflect on my experience so far, I recognize the work I have cut out for me.

Establishing A Routine
One of my main objectives has been to work at least 20 hours weekly, and I've mostly been able to maintain this commitment so far. My strategy involves going to the studio three times a week, starting as early as 5 AM and working until 1:30 PM. The early starts works best for me because it's when I'm most productive.
Balancing Work and Personal Life
The biggest challenge I have faced so far is finding balance between work, family, friends, and my own well being. While I dedicate my studio time entirely to the creation process, I use my home studio for administrative tasks. This separation has helped me stay focused, but it also requires me to be intentional about managing my time and energy. Every week is different because of different events, meetings, and availability for quality time with loved ones.
How the space changes the work
It's always so interesting when I move to a different country or a different space. Habits can change drastically. That is definitely the case here with moving from a home studio to a designated location and space for just art.
I've started to work larger and on several pieces at once. I can leave all of my materials for the day and pick it back up from right where I left it the next day. It's very liberating, and such a treat.
Looking ahead, I plan to incorporate more research into my creative process before beginning my final artworks. In the past, I would often dive straight into making as soon as inspiration struck. However, I am now making a conscious effort to sketch, journal, and explore ideas more thoroughly before committing to a piece.
While research and planning have never been my strong suits, I am embracing this fresh approach with an open mind. Finding balance will remain an ongoing challenge, but with each passing week, I am learning, adapting, and growing both as an artist and as a person.
