Bringing Vienna to the Postbox: Snail Mail Subscription Trial

As the holiday season settles in, it feels a bit different this year. I don't have any decorations, friends or family to share it with (apart from hubby & doggy, of course) I usually have the Xmas tree up SUPER early and have it looking like Santa's grotto by mid November. To not have all of that has made me think about what simple things I can do to make this year special. What can I do to be more intentional? I’ve found myself gathering materials for a new idea that’s been quietly forming for a while.
For years I’ve loved writing letters, choosing beautiful stationery, and sending small pieces of myself out into the world. And recently, more and more people have told me how much they miss real mail, the kind that isn’t a bill, an advertisement, or something to toss into the recycling bin five seconds later. Real mail has weight, intention, and warmth. It feels like a pause in the middle of the day. This coming year, I want to bring a bit of that magic back.
A Test Trial Run for a Slow Art Project
The holiday season feels like the perfect time to start a small trial. I've been gathering envelopes, papers, little treats, and materials that might become part of the subscription. I’ve been picking up bits and pieces here and there: stamps, wax seals, twine, textured paper, and the sorts of items that feel like treasures even before they’re transformed into something else.
My idea is simple:each month, subscribers would receive an original art print, a letter, and a few extra goodies; something tactile, thoughtful, and special.
I'll be sending a trial letter to Newsletter Subscribers, collectors and close friends around the world to see how it feels and gather feedback.
Art Inspired by Life in Vienna
So far, the theme that keeps drawing me in is life in Vienna.
I’ve done something similar before where I was selling original sketches from the places I visited while traveling. This time, I want to create prints mainly inspired by the city I’m living in day by day: its architecture, its winter markets, its old trams, its hidden corners, its moody cafés, its beautiful nature. Vienna has a way of being both grand and intimate at the same time, and I want to capture pieces of that feeling on paper. A different print every month, like a painted postcard from my life here.
A Small Gift in the Mailbox
I keep thinking about what it feels like to open the mailbox and find something that isn’t just grocery store promotions or a Chinese takeout pamphlet. Just something thoughtful, beautiful, handmade, and sent especially for me. So as the holiday season unfolds, I’ll be quietly gathering materials, sketching ideas, planning prints, and preparing to send out the first round of snail mail. It feels like a natural blend of everything I love - art, travel, writing, and connecting with people in a slower, more intentional way.
