As the calendar flips to 2025, I can’t help but reflect on what an incredible year 2024 turned out to be.

It was a year of milestones: a two-week art residency, two group exhibitions during the summer, and my first curated solo exhibition in December. Beyond that, I made strides in my personal growth, reading over a dozen books and memorizing several poems. OH! And getting a puppy! How can 2025 be a continuation of the momentum I’ve built? Here are some of my goals for the year ahead:

Building on Past Success

When it comes to personal development, I’m staying the course. I still plan to read widely, with a goal of 14+ books this year. Poetry memorization has become a meditating practice for me, and I aim to memorize six or more poems in 2025. Both endeavors fuel my creativity, sharpen my mind, and allow me to come back to the present moment.

However, it’s in my artistic practice where I’m looking to refine my approach.

Studio Practice: A Tactical Approach

I’ve realized that achieving artistic goals requires a tactical approach. This year, I’m committing to working 20 hours per week in studio production. Not the "busy work" of networking or administrative tasks but actual creation time. To make this goal manageable and measurable, I’ll structure it as five focused hours a day, four days a week.

Tracking my time will be key. Keeping a log of my start and finish times for each session will help ensure accountability and allow me to measure progress. Progress that is logged isn’t just visible, it’s more sustainable and allows for meaningful improvement over time.

Seeking Inspiration from Others

Art doesn’t happen in a vacuum. This year, I want to be intentional about surrounding myself with inspiring people. Whether it’s through conversations with other artists, attending events, or diving into new creative hobbies, I’m dedicating myself to trying one intriguing new thing each month. Each encounter or experience has the potential to challenge my perspective, spark new ideas, and even lead to collaborations.

The Power of Saying Yes

As always, I believe in the magic of saying yes to opportunities that align with my values and goals, and to projects that feel right for everyone involved. I’ve always trusted that the right opportunities will come my way if I put in the consistent work, and I’ll continue to approach them with openness.

If there’s one lesson I’ve learned, it’s that consistency is transformative. I’m excited to see how sticking to my practices, refining my studio habits, and expanding my network of inspiring people will lead to growth this year. Here’s to making 2025 a year of creativity & connection.
