As summer approaches, I'm thrilled to share that I will be participating in two group art shows this June!
These exhibitions promise to be vibrant, inspiring, and filled with diverse artworks that celebrate both nostalgic and contemporary themes. Here are the details:

'Java Jive' at il-Kamra ta' Fuq

Date: June 4th - 16th
Location: il-Kamra ta' Fuq - Mqabba, Malta
Curator: Melanie Erixon
About
I am honored to present my mixed media artwork, 'Java Jive', at il-Kamra ta' Fuq. This piece, created in 2022, is an abstract-realist artwork where I creatively use actual coffee in the background. The composition includes coffee fruit and care-free vintage vibes. The inspiration for 'Java Jive' comes from the song with the same title by The Ink Spots, a popular band from the 1930s-40s. This era of music has always held a special place in my heart, and I aimed to capture its glamour in a modern context.
Opening Hours:
Mondays to Saturdays 6:00 - noon
Sundays 7:00 - noon
You can find the event on Facebook
'Summer Haze' at Christine X Gallery

Date: June 20th - July 2024
Location: Christine X Gallery - Sliema, Malta
Curator: Christine Xuereb Seidu
About
The second exhibition, 'Summer Lovin'', marks the official start of summer and celebrates two decades of the Christine X Art Gallery in Sliema, Malta. Curator and founder Christine Xuereb Seidu describes this exhibition as a "vibrant showcase that celebrates the beauty and vitality of summer through the lens of art and photography."
For this show, I created an encaustic artwork titled 'Summer Haze'. Encaustic art is a technique that involves using heated beeswax mixed with colored pigments. The molten wax is then applied to a surface, typically wood, to create rich, textured layers. My inspiration for 'Summer Haze' was the drouzy mornings of the Maltese summer, which feel warm and heavy like a blanket. I depicted thyme, one of the few plants that thrive in the acrid Maltese summers, swaying in the slow, sticky breeze before the sun climbs high. Initially, I considered naming this piece 'Summer Honey' due to the bees' role in pollinating thyme and producing honey, as well as the beeswax used in the artwork.
